For men, breast tissue has less lobules and mainly consists of fat tissue, says Kecia Gaither, M.D., director of perinatal services and maternal fetal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in the Bronx, NY. Men’s symptoms of breast cancer tend to be the same as in women, she says:

  • Lumps
  • Nipple discharge or retraction
  • Pain and tenderness
  • Redness around the nipple and on the skin
  • Skin dryness or changes in texture
  • Swelling
