Doctors may recommend one of three types of myomectomies: hysteroscopic, laparoscopic or abdominal, which is also called a laparotomy. “This depends on the size and location of the fibroids,” explains Bronx-based ob-gyn Kecia Gaither, MD, MPH, the director of perinatal services at New York Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in the Bronx. “A woman should be knowledgeable as to what her options are and whether or not she wants to continue with her fertility.”
