“Basically, they are tube-like devices kind of shaped like a phallus [that are] made of plastic or some type of silicone to put in your vagina to stretch your vaginal tissue,” says Kecia Gaither, MD, MPH, an associate professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City and director of perinatal services and maternal fetal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in the Bronx.
