When you think about it, your womb is your fetus’ own personal playground. That’s why they bounce about and play. But when they lean to the right, it can be for a variety of reasons. “It could be due to an absence of amniotic fluid, either due to membrane rupture or renal agenesis in the fetus where the kidneys didn’t develop,” says Dr. Kecia Gaither, M.D., MPH, FACOG, board-certified OB-GYN, maternal fetal medicine specialist, Director of Perinatal Services at NYC Health + Hospitals. One study found that a decrease in amniotic fluid did correlate with a reduction in a fetus’ movements, which can explain the sensation that your little one is leaning to the right.
